Gugulethu Sofia Mbatha is better well-known by her stage name and screen name Gugu Mbatha Raw. She became popular following her appearance in "Doctor Who. Her mother was employed as a housekeeper, and her father worked as an auto dealer. Her mother, a German-born Immigrant in the United States since 1958, was born in Germany. Her diagnosis was cancer of the breast in 1989. Handler died after battling cancer for over ten years. Handler was educated in Reform Judaism by her father whom was Jewish. Handler was born in a nice neighborhood, and she had a very pleasant childhood. When she was in her early 20s Handler moved into Los Angeles in order to take on acting. Handler began to perform for income. Handler when she was 21, decided to focus on stand-up comics full time following her discovery of storytelling. Handler's professional career started as part of the all-female Oxygen television show in the show's hidden camera comedy Girls Behaving Inexplicably. From 2002 until 2005, it was on air. The handler then began appearing in several other shows like Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started her journey as a correspondent on The Tonight Show. The biggest break for Handler came in 2006 after she started hosting her own show on E! called The Chelsea Handler show. It lasted for two seasons. Handler was then seen in the United States as part of the Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcasted her stand-up comedy shows. In 2010, it was announced that she will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards 2010.
